Activation and educational activities in retirement homes during the coronavirus crisis

The diploma thesis is focused on the issue of offering activation and educational activities in retirement homes during the coronavirus crisis. The main goal of this work is to analyze the offer of educational and activation programs in retirement homes and findings and definition of differences in the offer of these programs in the period before and during the coronavirus crisis. The aim of this work should be to describe the current offer of activation and educational activities in homes for the elderly, how it differs from the normal situation and whether the current state affects the participation of seniors in these activities or their preferences. The work is divided into theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part describes the definition of basic concepts of this problematics, describes the quality of life of elderly and society's attitude towards the elderly, functions and goals of education of elderly, possible ways of motivation and barriers in education of elderly and finally the importance and staffing for educational and activation activities in retairment homes. The reasons for refusing involvement of seniors into the occupational activities

This bachelor thesis focuses on the reasons why seniors using home care services can not or do not want to participate in activation programs. General nurses were also approached to map the problem, which identified the overall knowledge of activation programs and their involvement in various activities. This work is composed of theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part there are outlined changes that occur during aging, suitable technique of communication with seniors and possible activation programs, which can be applied in the homes for seniors. The empirical part consists of four objectives. The first objective was to find out why seniors are unable or unwilling to participate in activation programs in the home for the elderly. The second objective was to find out what activation programs are provided to seniors in homes for the elderly. The third objective of this work was to find out whether the seniors participating in the activation programs were satisfied and whether they wished for new activation programs. The ultimate goal was to find out how nurses are involved in activation programs and how deep is their knowledge of activation programs. Subsequently, five research questions were identified. For the research, a qualitative survey technique was chosen using a semi-structured interview. Altogether, eight nurses and ten seniors were approached. The interviews were recorded and then rewritten into text. In the chapters, the results and discussion outline possible reasons for not involving seniors in activation programs. Research shows that seniors who attend at least some of the activation programs are satisfied with these programs. Some said they wish that the new programs would move into the home for the elderly. Most seniors have said that the benefits in these activation programs could be seen. Research from nurses has revealed that they have good knowledge of activation programs used by seniors. Surprisingly, only few nurses are involved in these programs. The chapters of the discussion and conclusion contain the results and possible recommendations for increasing the interest of seniors in activation programs.
Possibility of activating seniors

This diploma thesis analyses the offer of activation programs of centres, clubs and centres for social services for seniors in the capital city of Prague. The diploma thesis focuses on issues of activation of seniors. The research of the diploma thesis also aims to find out what the benefits of various activation programs for the elderly, how the seniors are looking at specific activities and how important they are to them. The aim of this diploma thesis is to find out what activities the seniors are most searching for and whether the choice is related to the age, family status, original vocation and education. The diploma thesis is a case study of empirical character. From the methodological point of view, the thesis uses two basic methods: firstly, the collection and analysis of relevant data from professional literature, and secondly, a qualitative research conducted by semistructured interviews with a representative sample of respondents.

This bachelor thesis is focused on reasons due to which seniors using senior facilities can not or do not want to join activation programmes. To map the issue out, general nurses were addressed, as well as seniors whose general knowledge of activation programmes and their opinions on these programmes, were being detected. Especially questions focused on the issue of providing activation programmes were aimed at social workers. This thesis consists of a theoretical, and an empirical part. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on changes occuring during old age, on the suitable technique of senior communication, and possible activation programmes that may be applied in senior homes. The empirical part consists of four aims. The following was being detected: the reasons why seniors do not join activation programmes in senior facilities, and what activation programmes seniors in senior facilities are provided with, as well as the ways these programmes are being provided. The last aim was trying to detect how general nurses participate in activation programmes, as well as their knowledge in this area. A semi-structured interview technique was chosen for the purposes of the empirical part of this thesis. The obtained information was processed via the pen-paper method, and further, using open coding, divided into the 3 relevant categories. The general-nurse category contains four more subcategories, social worker category five subcategories, and senior category six subcategories. The survey results prove that the most frequently given reasons for not involving seniors into these activities is unsatisfactory health condition, but also other personal reasons. Senior facilities offer a wide programme choice. All programmes except dramatherapy are represented. Activation programmes are provided based on health condition and the seniors´ wishes in an individual or group form. General nurses take part in preparing the seniors for the activation programmes. Some help in activity implementation. The general nurses´ knowledge about the held activation programmes in their facility are more than satisfactory. All of the general nurses were even able to list the professional titles of activation programmes. This thesis helps to sketch possible reasons why seniors refuse to get involved in activation programmes, the satisfaction with programme offer, and personal opinions on new programmes, rooms, and staff implementing these programmes.
Factors influencing senior decisions to use activation programs

The aim of this study is to identify factors influencing senior decisions to use activation programs. The theoretical part summarizes the basic concepts of age and aging studies, social services for the elderly, the system context and current trends in care for the elderly, the importance of activation of seniors, motivation, specific forms of activation programs and their creation process. The empirical part analyzes of the data obtained using qualitative research. The results of this study showed that the seniors want to do more themselves, feel good, keep fit, to enhance their knowledge and skills, to experience the feeling of being useful and understanding, the need of joy and, not least, be among people, interact with them and learn about them. The results thus confirmed the importance of activation programs for seniors that promote both physical and mental health.
Leisure time activities in the Home for Elderly Tachov, Panenská

The aim of this bachelor thesis called "Leisure activities for Panenská nursing home in Tachov" is to map the satisfaction of the house's clients with the leisure activities provided by the nursing home. This thesis comprises of two parts - theoretical and research. The theoretical part copes with the ageing problematics, with the needs of old people, their leisure time and leisure activities and certain acquisition programs. This thesis aims generally on the problematics with the focus on nursing homes, especially Panenská nursing home in Tachov. The main method is the qualitative research. The target, methodology and schedule are further described in the thesis. The used methods of qualitative research is the interviewing with semi-structured interviews. The interviews were held with the clients of Panenská nursing home in Tachov. The research data files has been chosen by the intentional quoting choice. As a secondary method, the framework data analysis technique, word-for-word transcription and the cluster-creating method has been chosen. The research has shown that the clients are satisfied with the leisure activities provided by the nursing home but they would like to introduce several new activities -handcrafting and creative writing especially. The extension of the scale of the activities would lead to the fulfilment of the needs of the clients and furthermore to more effective use of their leisure time. All the above mentioned information are possible to further use as an information source about the leisure activities in Panenská nursing home in Tachov. This bachelor thesis will be used as a feedback for the mentioned nursing home. It might help not just to improved the function of the nursing home but to greater satisfaction of its clients as well.
